September 24, 2022

in Community News,Organization News

As Tropical Storm Ian approaches the Florida coast, we are taking appropriate precautions and working with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and team members at our five Florida communities. See below for the latest updates:

UPDATE 9/27/2022 (FOR VILLAGE ON THE GREEN)

Tropical Storm Ian has been upgraded to Hurricane Ian and the Orlando area has been placed under a Tropical Storm Watch. Landfall is expected to take place overnight on Thursday into Friday morning between the west coast of Florida and the Florida panhandle, north of our Village on the Green community. However, Village on the Green is still predicted to fall within the storm’s cone of uncertainty (the projected path and intensity) where some impact may be felt from high winds and rain.

Our community and the Orlando area can expect to feel the effects of the storm as early as Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning as the outer bands of the storm reach our area. At this point, we can expect heavy rain and high sustained winds, though that could change as all storms are somewhat unpredictable.

Residents are encouraged to continue their personal preparations for the storm. This includes:

  • Remove loose objects from your patios
  • Charge your cell phones
  • Ensure you have flashlights with batteries (no candles please)
  • Pack a “go-bag” with several changes of clothing, a rain jacket, and medications should an evacuation be necessary
  • If you have a pet, make sure you have food and water for them to last seven days
  • Fill available water jugs and place in your refrigerator

Lifespace continues to carefully monitor the storm’s progress and our Village on the Green team members continue to take the necessary precautions to ensure we are prepared. Lifespace regional leaders and your Executive Director remain in close contact, and will remain so throughout the storm, to review our preparation progress and mitigate any issues the storm may cause.

Our top priority is the safety of our residents and team members, and we remain diligent in ensuring each of you a safe and secure environment.

Updates will continue to be communicated throughout our community and on this website.
